In May of 1980, the citizens of Gwangju fought against state violence to protect democracy and human dignity. The spirit of the May 18 People’s Uprising continued on afterwards, overcoming isolation and disconnect and leading to a nation-wide fight for truth, justice, and reparations for those who had been wronged. Our people, no matter where they were and what they were doing, did not ever give up their steadfast march toward democracy.   “Marching for Our Beloved” is a song that represents the May 18 People’s Uprising. Event: May 18^th Uprising ‘Marching for Our Beloved’ Cover Song Contest

 

Eligibility: Anyone anywhere may participate. You can participate as a soloist, or in a group of up to 5 people.

 

Important Dates:

·       We will accept submissions from April 27^th, 2020 (Mon) – May 18^th, 2020 (Mon) by 18:00.

·       We will judge submissions from May 19^th, 2020 (Tue) – May 25^th, 2020 (Mon).

·       The winner will be announced June 1^st, 2020 (Mon) at 17:00.

o   An announcement will be made on our homepage (www.518people.org), and the winner will be contacted separately.

·       There will be an award ceremony on June 5^th (attendance is mandatory.)

 

Submission Guidelines:

·       Send a video recording of your cover of “Marching for Our Beloved.”

·       Covers of all musical genres are welcome (rap, trot, R&B, electric, band, Korean traditional music, ballad, dance, etc).

·       The music video should be a finished product under 3 minutes that features your singing.

·       Please send the video in its original format (resolution over 1280x720, MP4, h.264codec).

 

How to Submit:

·       Email us at 518gh@hanmail.net, attaching the video file and the completed submission form that you can download from our homepage.

·       The title of the email should follow this format: “Marching For Our Beloved (YOUR NAME)”

 

Judging:

·       Popular Vote (30%)

o   The submitted videos will be uploaded to our official Youtube channel in the order that they were submitted, from May 18^th – May 27^th. The score will be decided by the number of likes it receives (20%) and the number of plays (10%).

·       Professional Assessment (70%)

o   Pitch and rhythm (20%), vocal power (20%), popular appeal (10%), lyric delivery (10%)

·       After the scores from the two categories have been combined, our judges will decide on the winners.

 

Prizes:

First Place (1): 3,000,000 KRW

Second Place (2): 2,000,000 KRW

Third Place (3): 1,000,000 KRW

Honorary Mention (4): 500,00 KRW

 

Rules and Disclaimers:

·       The video you send cannot be used for other contests. If the video has been used elsewhere, your prize will be cancelled.

·       If your video violates the rights of others or in other ways causes issues, your award may be revoked and you will have to return the prize money.

·       All taxes incurred by this prize are your responsibility (you will receive the prize money after it has been taxed.)

·       You must grant the 40^th Commemorative Event Committee for the May 18 People’s Uprising the right to publish, copy, reproduce, display, perform, create derivative works, distribute to a third party, and otherwise broadly use the submission materials.

·       No part of your entry (music, font, images, etc) should infringe upon any intellectual property right or copyright. In the case of a dispute, you alone will assume all legal responsibilities and liabilities.
